Water Walk
Join Wee Volunteer at the second annual Dallas Water Walk, a symbolic walk to raise awareness about the world water crisis and support for the UNICEF Tap Project, which is a global campaign to provide children with clean water. Families will be given weighted jugs to carry on the quarter-mile loop around Curtis Park.
Along the way you’ll see posted signs with fun facts about water and then the kids can visit the education area to learn more about UNICEF’s mission. Stop by between 9am and 1pm and then snack on grilled cheese sandwiches from the Ruthie’s Rolling Café food truck. For more information, visit dallaswaterwalk.weebly.com.
Planetarium Shows
Noble Planetarium at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is debuting new shows: Dark Matter, a full dome movie that explores the complex scientific story of dark matter, and RadioActive, a laser light show that features rock music from bands including Radiohead, Muse, Florence and The Machine, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. See Dark Matter on Saturday 3:45pm, or RadioActive at 7pm or 8:30pm.
Or over in the Omni Theater, you can catch the 5pm showing of Tornado Alley, an IMAX film open Saturday at the museum about Sean Casey from the Discovery Channel documentary series Storm Chasers and the researchers of Vortex2.
Shamrockin’ 5K Mud Run
Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, the kids can join the Clover Mile Wave, a one-mile mud run at noon, at J Ranch in Flower Mound, while the adults can run in the 5K course – waves start at 9am – with a zip line and more than 20 obstacles. Finishers will get a lucky charm and admission to the festival with live music, food and, for adults, green beer. Proceeds benefit Legacy Boxer Rescue of Texas. Admission is $75 on race day.
